Local and regional transport
Travel to and from Dresden will be arranged by the incoming groups according to the most reasonable way by airplane / train. Local transfers are mainly by public transport, supported by university minibuses if necessary (luggage, adverse weather). Accommodation in the first week is less than 1 km from the railway station “Nünchritz” served by regional trains, there is a bus stop right in front of the building. We will be in a rural area, so bus and rail connections are not very frequent. Bicycles may therefore be used.
In Dresden, the public transport network (rail, tram, bus, ferry) is excellent, there are also night services. The International Guest House is situated about 10 min walk from Dresden main railway station. To get to the project area regional trains and buses can be used. If necessary there will be support by HTW minibuses.
Information on timetables lines, interchanges, tickets etc. in the whole region including Dresden are available on https://www.vvo-online.de/en/index.aspx
and https://www.vvo-online.de/de/fahrplan/index.aspx, also for smart phones. In Dresden there is also information available on http://www.dvb.de/en/Homepage/ and http://www.dvb.de/de/Startseite/
HTW students and teachers will make suggestions how to use public transport and give advise.
University: HTW Dresden and City of Dresden
Hochschule fuer Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Dresden is the second largest university in the City of Dresden. It is a professionally oriented institution, has eight faculties and more than 5,000 students. The main HTW campus is in the inner city between Dresden main railway station and Technical University.
http://www.htw-dresden.de/en/
HTW’s faculty of Agriculture and Landscape Management is located upstream on the river Elbe near Pillnitz Palace, Park and former Royal Domain. Programmes in agriculture, horticulture, landscape and open space development as well as environmental monitoring and analysis are taught to about 700 students. http://www.htw-dresden.de/en/index/faculties/agriculture-landscape-management.html
Pillnitz palace with its arboretum has a long tradition in botany, garden design and horticulture.
http://www.schloesserland-sachsen.de/en/palaces_castles_and_gardens/gardens_and_parks/pillnitz_castle_and_park/
Today there is a concentration of several scientific institutions in the realm of environment, horticulture and agriculture. Pillnitz is surrounded by valuable and beautiful historic cultural and natural landscape.
Information on the city of Dresden is available under www.dresden.de
There is an interactive database on urban elements, infrastructure, environment and landscape:
http://stadtplan.dresden.de/
Information about the IP area and partners
The project area is in Germany, in the Federal State of Saxony: http://www.sachsen.de/en/
It is part of the County of Meissen – website in German language only:
http://www.kreis-meissen.org/49.html
The county administration provides a geoinformation platform offering data on nature and landscape

Our regional co-operation partner is the voluntary association Elbe-Roeder-Dreieck e.V. set up for the purpose of promoting regional management and bringing together local authorities, cultural and economic activities http://www.elbe-roeder.de
For Saxony there is a service of geodata which can be used free of charge (examples in separate file)
http://www.landesvermessung.sachsen.de/ias/basiskarte/java/dispatch
There are several more websites on local places and topics relevant for the IP which are only avalable in German Language. We will provide selected information later.
Communication, computer programmes and internet access
Information about the study area is avalable in analogous and digital form (maps, texts photos etc.). Students are encouraged to use hand drawings and sketches as well as short texts as means of communication. For the intermediate presentation plans and sketches displayed on the walls as well as short data-projections and other means of display are welcome. The final presentations will be mainly based on data preojection, but have to be supported by posters showing the main stages and results of the analytical and conceptual process. There is limited internet access in the accommodation.
It is intended to provide workspace on the online-learning-platform OPAL used by universities in Saxony. During the second week at HTW university in Dresden, students can also use the educational network “eduroam”. We recommend that students link into the eduroam network at their home universities so they have access to the network on arrival. http://www.eduroam.org.tr/ and http://www.eduroam.be/.
On campus, local computer pools can be used during limited times only due to current teaching and examinations. It would be favourable if students and colleagues bring laptops/notebooks equipped with GIS/CAD and graphic programmes. There is a plot service on campus and several private plot and reprographic firms in the neighbourhood which can be used after previous announcement or registration.
